GreenThumb Northern Ireland

GreenThumb Belfast North & South is operated by local brothers Hugh and Harry Gaston under the company name Bankhead Services Ltd. The business has over 40 years of experience and its team is experienced, locally owned and managed, and fully trained and certified in lawn care, weed control, pest management, and hard surface treatments. The service area covers Belfast, East Belfast, Carryduff, South Belfast, West Belfast, North Belfast, and Dunmurry.

Main services include year-round lawn treatment programmes with feeds and weed control, plus optional aeration, scarification, moss management, overseeding, and hard surface treatments. Commercial lawn and hard surface care is provided for businesses. A personal consultation on site assesses soil quality, lawn usage, and access for machinery. After treatment, customers should stay off the lawn until any liquid has dried, approximately 2 hours. For grazing pets like rabbits or guinea pigs, keep them off the lawn for at least two weeks or until three cuts, whichever is later. Customers can start the service at any time of year.

Lawn treatment in Belfast is the theme that runs through customer accounts, and the feedback divides sharply. Several reviewers describe a service they consider poor value, saying that regular payments did not produce noticeably healthier grass and that the lawn ended up no better than a neighbour's. Something that features in review after review is confusion over billing and visits: one household was charged twice within a short period and told a technician had missed a treatment, while another continued paying monthly without seeing the expected improvement.

How problems were handled also attracts criticism. After fertiliser was spilled on a rear lawn and left a bald patch, the company acknowledged the mistake on a card but had not returned to put it right weeks later, which led the customer to cancel. More positive accounts praise the expertise brought to lawn care and describe treatments that visibly improved the grass. The division between satisfied and dissatisfied customers is stark, with the complaints centring on value, communication and follow-through.
