Muddy Spades Landscape Gardening Oxford
What customers say
Churches, new-build homeowners and households with long-neglected plots make up much of the clientele describing work by Muddy Spades Landscape Gardening Oxford, based at Bradley Farm in Cumnor. Royston is named throughout as heading the team, often alongside colleagues Chris, Alex and Archie, and is credited with responding quickly to enquiries and keeping clients updated as jobs progressed. One thing mentioned again and again is the team's willingness to push through difficult conditions, including wet weather during a fencing installation, without missing agreed completion dates. Projects described include artificial turf and patio installation, full garden transformations from clay and flooding into usable lawns, fencing, top soil replacement with metal edging, pruning of overgrown jasmine and wisteria, and a large volunteer-led clean-up at a cemetery site. Attention to detail is mentioned by several clients, particularly around matching a garden designer's plans closely and taking on extra work, such as rehoming surplus fruit trees and topsoil, without being asked. Reviewers also note being kept honestly informed throughout, even when this meant recommending a delay to achieve a better result. The business operates weekdays from half past seven in the morning until five in the afternoon, closed at weekends, and covers both residential gardens and larger community sites around Oxford.

I have used Royston and the team for a number of years across multiple residential developments around Oxfordshire. He's knowledgeable, professional, and always willing to go the extra mile to keep everything looking its best. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Muddy Spades to anyone looking for a competent and dependable garden maintenance team.
Thank you to Royston and the team from Muddy Spades for doing such a wonderful job at the Wantage Baptist Church cemetery in Garston Lane. It was long overdue for a good clean up, but too much for our volunteers to cope with. Royston responded quickly to my email cry for help and the team were brilliant. They are highly recommended.
Delighted with our new garden fencing, what a difference! :) Many thanks to Royston, Alex & Archie! The Muddy Spades team worked incredibly hard in horrible wet weather conditions to transform our little garden! The work was carried out on the agreed dates (despite the weather!) & was completed well within time, as they worked non-stop. Royston came to quote for us back in the spring & recommended we hold off until the autumn (so as not to disturb the summer planting). We had 3 quotes, Muddy Spades was competitive, but the main reason I chose them was down to Royston's 'Can Do' approach & consideration for the planting we already had in the garden. The quality of the materials have exceeded expectations & I'm looking forward to working on the garden ready for spring :) Some Before & After photos added.
Well, in the end, after some chasing they did do the job, but they have never fully completed it despite being paid. And they in my opinion overcharged for it. The work was done well, so there is that to be said. But the date agreed for the work came and went. Trees were delivered but not planted so had to be continuously watered in our front garden to keep them alive. The initial quote included machinery when in the end the job was done entirely manually. The reduction which I had to push for was less than the machinery component. He promised to take away the leftover soil and bushes - but never has done. Royston talks a good battle...
They were very responsive and replied to all questions in a timely manner. They were excellent at providing updates on when to expect their garden folks. And most importantly, they were knowledgeable about their area of expertise. We can’t praise them enough for the excellent work they did on our garden. We would highly recommend them.
We can’t recommend Royston and his team enough. They did a great job, and we are so pleased with our garden. They carried out the garden designer’s plans thoughtfully and with real care. Throughout Royston has been an honest and thorough person to work with. Thank you for all your hard work; I know we’ll enjoy our garden for years to come!
Transformed my garden from a flooded clay pit in to a wonderful green lawn we look forward to using over the summer, thanks to Royston and Chris! Works: Top soil removed and replaced with new, fresh turf and metal edging.
