How much does Tree surgeons cost in London? (2026 price guide)

Tree surgery prices depend heavily on tree size and job type. Removing a small to medium tree typically costs £250-£600, while a large mature tree can cost £700-£1,500 or more, especially where cranes or difficult access are involved. Crown reduction or thinning usually runs £200-£500 per tree, stump grinding typically costs £70-£150 per stump, and hedge trimming is often priced from £15-£25 per metre.

Costs are driven mainly by tree height and location, proximity to buildings or power lines, whether a TPO (Tree Preservation Order) or conservation area consent is needed, and how the waste is disposed of or recycled as logs or chippings. Fully insured, NPTC-qualified surgeons tend to charge more but carry essential liability cover.

Always confirm the contractor holds public liability insurance and relevant NPTC certificates before booking, and check whether any tree is protected before agreeing to work.
