Tree Hugger & Son Tree Services Limited

Tree Hugger & Son Tree Services Limited is a family-run tree surgery business based in Nottingham. The company was founded in 2005 by Drew Patterson and has been operating for over 20 years. It is a second-generation tree care business spanning three generations of the family. In November 2024, Drew Patterson retired and passed the business to Ross and Ellie Patterson; Ross Patterson is a Director. Drew Patterson achieved a Distinction in the Level 3 National Award in Arboriculture at Broomfield College.

The company employs NPTC and City & Guilds qualified arborists and is fully insured. It has trained apprentices, including former apprentices Josh Weedon, Lewis Truman and Lawrence Pilkington, and current apprentice Jake Halliday. The business serves Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and the surrounding areas. It provides commercial tree work for businesses, developers, councils and managing agents, and tree reports and surveys for planning, mortgages, insurance and BS 5837. The company uses electric equipment where possible. Services include tree surgery, removals and hedge cutting.

Householders seeking tree work describe a consistently professional service from Tree Hugger & Son, with expertise and advice emerging as a recurring strength. Ross and Drew are both named for explaining how trees would be managed and how to care for them afterwards. The range of work mentioned includes trimming and pollarding weeping willows, removing conifers, dead rowan and holly, stump grinding, hedge cutting and crown thinning to improve tree health. Punctuality comes up often, with teams arriving when promised and completing jobs within the estimated time.

Tidiness is another repeated theme: gardens are left spotless, leaves cleared and stumps ground so thoroughly that little evidence of the work remains. Clear quotes and fair pricing feature regularly, and one customer notes that a quote arrived within days and the work was scheduled promptly. The crew is described as knowledgeable, approachable and courteous, with care taken over difficult access and support given with a tree preservation order application. The finish achieved on conifer hedges and the courteous conduct of the team, including the worker nicknamed The Squirrel who hand trimmed an upper canopy, are what householders keep returning to.
